History
Transport and haulage is what Woodall Transport Group does and has done for the past 70 years.
Founded by Jack Woodall in the late 1930’s with Dunlop Tyres as the sole customer, Woodall Transport (Birmingham) Ltd operated out of the Fort Dunlop site in Birmingham. Dunlop Goodyear remains a customer to this day.
1940’sDuring the Second World War, Jack worked for Dunlop and for the government with drivers who were exempt from service.
1950’sFollowing nationalization, Jack Woodall restarted the business with local work from Dunlop using 3 vehicles and 2 old drivers, with work gradually building up as licenses allowed.
1960’sLocal hauliers Woods Haulage Ltd were acquired in order to expand the Company.
1962J&C Haulage was acquired and work starts using artic’s with “big” 27’ trailers. John Woodall joins the business from college.
1970’sJack Woodall died in 1971 and John at only 27 assisted by Rod Woodall took over the running of the Company. This was a prosperous decade for Woodall’s, seeing major growth and a significant contract win with Cadburys.
1980’sJohn Woodall bought out his brother Rod in the late 1980’s.
1990’sDaughters Hannah (services) and Sophie Woodall (transport) joined their father in the early 1990’s. Gained ISO 9002 accreditation for provision of Road Haulage Services.
2001Moved ISO 9002 provision for Road Haulage Services in house to RHA ICON (in CONTROL) system (now known as Op-Com).
2002Richard Woodall joined his father in 2002 to complete the family.
2004Joined the Palletforce (palletforce 2007, palletways 2004) network, adding the capability to deliver small one or two pallet consignments in addition to the full load work, expanding the customer base.
2006John Woodall took semi-retirement as chairman (off and on since late 90’s) and Richard Woodall became Managing Director (in January 2007- took over from Sophie – MD since 2004) following a re-branding forming Woodall Transport Group, incorporating Woodall Transport (Birmingham) Ltd, Woods (Haulage) Ltd and Woodall Services Ltd.
2008Woodall Transport Group continues to prosper with its 40 strong fleet which offers 60 different trailer options.
